Green Routes

The area has many green routes, ideal for walking, cycling and horseriding. You can choose between a wide range of paths with different levels of difficulty and length, but all leading to the discovery of nature and of the many historical and artistic attractions of the area. Below you will find a brief description of some of these routes, more or less famous but all charming and interesting.

The “Via Francigena” is an ancient route that in medieval times connected Canterbury to Rome and has been rediscovered as surprising and enchanting by modern wayfarers.

“Dolce Campagna Antiche Mura”
Interesting trekking routes ideal for walking, cycling and horseriding, immersed in the artistic and natural landscape of Valdelsa.

Via Salaria
The Salaria is the ancient salt road which connected the salt mines of Volterra to Florence. Through the Via Salaria – a nature trail rich in breathtaking landscapes – it’s possible to reach the ancient city of Volterra on foot.

The specialty menus and selected wine lists of the many wine bars and restaurants will make you fall in love with all the genuine products of the territory, while food and wine festivals will offer you an authentic taste of the local flavors.

Wine & Olive Oil tasting
Plenty of local producers will open their cellars, giving you the opportunity to taste their wines and olive oil directly on the spot, together with other local specialities that will delight your palate.
From mid-October to the end of December you will also be able to visit the oil mills, open only in this time of year, where you will see the production process and taste the new oil.

Truffle hunting (from September 10 to December 31)
Truffle hunting is an amusing open air activity that will give you the chance to experience nature in the company of truffle hunters – and their inseparable lively dogs – and to enjoy the traditional truffle tasting fairs held in the area in October and November. Read more…

Secret Tuscany

Glass Museum
The glassmakers of Gambassi were famous and very expert craftsmen. Furnaces and glass products are on permanent display at the Glass Museum and Germagnana Archaeological Park of Gambassi Terme.

Holy Mount of San
The Holy Mount was founded by the Franciscan friars, who first built the convent and then about 25 chapels. Just 3km away from Borgo Le Colline, it’s today considered one of the most famous places of worship in Italy and has been recognized as national monument.

Ceramics of Montelupo
The Montelupo pottery is linked to the presence of clay deposits along the banks of the Arno.
Today, the Montelupo Museum of Ceramics tells this fascinating history, while workshops still produce both traditional ceramic models and new decorations.

Pinocchio Park, dedicated to the famous wooden puppet, is a large recreating park for children located in Collodi, a small town near Lucca.
